In Korean cuisine, gochujang is an essential ingredient used a very a lot of variety of recipes and gives everything a huge flavor boost with with its complex flavors of umami, sweetness and a bit of spiciness.

That being said, this recipe list will show you different ways you can use gochujang in your cooking, and it's not just limited to Korean food, so it's a very versatile ingredient!

    What is Gochujang?

A small black bowl of tteokbokki sauce (garlic, gochujang, gochugaru) mixed together and set on a wooden table

Gochujang is a fermented chili paste made from red chili powder, glutinous rice, fermented soybeans (meju), and salt, along with other ingredients such as sweeteners and sometimes garlic.

This paste is traditionally fermented in earthenware pots called onggi, which allows the mixture to develop its distinct umami-rich taste over time. The fermentation process can take several months to years, during which the flavors intensify and mature.

It's a versatile condiment that adds depth, a hint of sweetness and spiciness to a wide range of dishes, from traditional Korean stews and marinades to modern fusion recipes!
